Here’s some ideas to “roll ya own” Internet Security Suite for free. Free is always the best.

    1. For your Anti-Virus……(Always use only 1 A-V)

I like the AOL AntiVirusShield. Don’t let the name AOL scare you. AntiVirusShield is made by Kaspersky which is one of top-rated anti-virus vendors in the world.

In recent tests, the most popular free anti-virus, AVG, was only able to detect about 82% of a very large sample of viruses. On the other hand, AntiVirusShield was able to detect better than 99% in the same test.
    Full test results are here:
    http://www.virus.gr/english/fullxml/default.asp?id=82&mnu=82

AntiVirusShield has excellent virus detection rates and is extremely light on using your computer resources.

Updates many times per day to detect new malware.

Free to anyone, AOL member or not from:

    2. For your Firewall……….(Always use only 1 firewall)

An excellent free firewall is Comodo Personal Firewall. It can pass firewall “leak tests” that even most of the “paid-for” firewalls cannot pass.

And Comodo has a great support forum. Where the CEO / President of the company might even himself answer your question! Check it out at:
    http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

    3. For your Anti-Adware and Anti-Spyware needs……………(use 2)

Pick and choose, 2 anti-spywares from the list below and alternate scanning with them on a regular basis. New spywares are created literally hourly, so no single anti-spyware can really detect all malware. Have at least 2 on hand and alternate scanning with each every few days or so. All are free. All can remove as well as detect.

    Spybot Search and Destroy:

    Ewido:

    Adaware SE:

    A-Squared:

    Windows Defender:

Unfortunately, many “paid for” anti-spyware products are in fact either of limited usefulness or downright scams. When in doubt, look at the list of rogue anti-spyware solutions listed here:
    http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

    4. And to protect your computer from ever getting infected with spyware in the first place………… (use them both)

    SpywareBlaster:

    SiteAdvisor:

    Everything here is 100% free!!!!!!

    Great luck!

    there are several …
avg antivirus is a good one. the free version is easily downloadabl.it offers really good virus scanning, but it can’t heal infected files, just protect the uninfected ones. try procuring the full version from the net. it’s good.
then there is avast antivirus.i haven’t tried it like avg, but my pal says it’s just as good.
if you’re looking for antivirus coupled with malware & apyware detectors, i recommend zonealarm by zonelabs.its for free.
good spyware detectors include ad-aware & spybot search& destroy.
pick & choose…all of the above are free & on the net(except the avg full product..you’ll have to search real hard to get that..)

I would say that kaspersky would be the best protector, but it does cost a bit more the regular anti virus software to purchase but you can download anti virus for free as well. If you want the software you want to buy for a cheaper price go for Mac Fee or Norton 2007.

I have Norton and it’s alright but I here some bad things about it. I think mcfee is real good

    norton is horrible..

    go with AVG..its free

Norton Antivirus 2007 is a good choice, but i never liked it scince its a resource hog and it takes 3 months of sleepless nights to get it up and running –

Panda Antivirus 2007 + Firewall is the best IMO
i have Panda Antivirus Titanium 2004 and it works better than Norton 2006

I’ve used Norton Antivirus for years and have always been pretty happy with the protection. I’m not impressed as much with the price or the inability/illegality of using it on multiple PC’s.

I am currently using the new Windows Live OneCare from Microsoft and it seems to be working pretty well. Being from MS, it integrates pretty will with Windows. It also has a nice license that allows you to use it on up to 3 computers, which I like. I think I pad about $ 80 at Costco for it if I remember right.

The only one I truly don’t like is McAfee. I have had nothing but problems with that thing over the years.

Its called common sense! You use file sharing sites, youre gonna get nuked! You download every little trinket and flashy bauble you see on the net, youre gonna get nuked! Virus protection gives people a false sense of security! They think they are immune from attack and this is so far from the truth it aint funny!

I recommend AVG as an anti virus, although eTrust’s 12 month free trial is excellent (I’m using it and am extremely impressed).
If you need other programs, go for Zone Alarm firewall, AVG anti spyware (formerly Ewido) and SpywareBlaster.

If you click on the names in that list I gave you and it will take you to the official download site.

Please ensure that you keep them all updated for full protection and check for any updates when you first download them.
